Super Bowl 2012 Adverts

This year was a relatively strange year for the Super Bowl, as a large number of adverts were leaked online prior to the actual Super Bowl. Also, there is a lot of criticism going around saying that this year; advertisers played it safe, making sure that the adverts were not provocative so to appeal to a larger group of consumers.

I understand that after the whole Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction “debacle, everyone wanted to play it safe, but I mean that was many many years ago. Also, when you are spending on average $3.5 millions just to buy 30 seconds of air time during the Super Bowl, not counting the costs of actually commissioning and producing the TV advert, wouldn’t you want it to be something extremely memorable. Now I'm not saying you need to be provocative in the sense that nudity and sex needs to be part of the advert, but after having looked over a lot of the 2012 Super Bowl adverts, I have to say that I am not overly impressed. There are more than 111 million people just in the US watching the Super Bowl, not counting all of us who watch it from abroad. With those numbers of viewers, you don’t want to spend millions so that your advert barely gets noticed. Also, the Super Bowl is probably the one time a year where consumers actually want to watch the commercials. We are excited to see them, and are willing to actively engage and pay attention, which happens rarely to say the least, so advertisers should take advantage of this and amaze us.

However, having said that, I cant deny that some of the adverts are really good! Overall, the majority were not great, but some adverts were really interesting and managed to do a great job without being provocative! So here are some of the Super Bowl Adverts which I really enjoyed, to view the rest click on the link! Hope you managed to watch the Giants take home the 46th Super Bowl Championship and enjoyed the game, it was truly an awesome match!

Even Advertising can be Funny!

I always try and post adverts that are creative, or really innovative, bla bla bla, I think its time for some funny ones! Its the weekend, while it snowing in the entire UK, in Glasgow its gloomy and rainy, so I think some funny adverts are needed! Have a look at them, I tried to pick out a good selection! Enjoy!

P.S. Do not underestimate the following adverts, it is said that out of all the possibile appeals used by advertising, humour is one of the most effective appeals. It generates consumer awareness, creatives positive emotions and associations with the brand and product, and can also generate a viral effect across consumers! So being funny can be exactly what a brand needs to get through the clutter and to the consumer!

The World in a Minute - STA Travel

Here is a great advert that was made for STA travel. Instead of showing you some cheesy pictures of beaches and beautiful hotels, they sent three guys on a trip around the world and got them to film it all. Then, they took all their footage and compiled it in a one minute video. It is very cool, very fast pace, and definitely makes you want to pack up and travel! Have a look at it, its short but sweet!

Life's too Short for the Wrong Job

This has got to be one of my favourite advertising campaigns of all time, honestly, it is creative, imaginative, funny, and most of all memorable! If I was looking for a job, this would definitely drive me to their website, no doubt what so ever! The campaign was created by Scholz & Friends, Berlin, for a German online recruitment website, jobsintown.de. This is exactly what I mean when I moan and complain that nobody tries to break the mold and create something different, something that I would willingly look at and be intrigued by. I think, speaking on behalf of all consumers, if you were to walk past one of these "ads", you would look twice and laugh! They are SOOO COOL! Have a look at the rest of the photos by clicking the link and let me know what you think! ENJOY!

Your Point of View - HSBC

One of my favourite things to do when I flew threw Paris Charles de Gaulle was to walk through the corridors that connect the terminal buildings and admire the HSBC ads. I think they are impeccable, there is such a strong philosophy of life behind them, and I think that is great! They really help you understand the mere fact that everyone is different, and for that, everyone thinks and reacts differently. Why assume your point of view is the correct one? So, I used to always enjoy seeing the new ads that they'd put up, and try and see which one I agreed with! Have a go and look through them, they are so cool and in so many ways! It's a fight of opinions, a comparison of cultures, a presentation of differences! It's the world and its differences printed as an advert, can it get any better than that really? Click the link to see the rest! Enjoy!

Dubai...The Heart of the Middle East

I have been to many places, trust me, my suitcase is a patchwork of stickers from airports and security checks from all over, but there is no place like Dubai! Mabe it's because I saw it grow into the city that it is today, maybe it's because part of my family and friends are there, maybe it's because I LOVE warm and sunny places, what ever it is, Dubai is an amazing place, and if you havent been there yet, go, you will love it! No seriously, start packing, you know what, I'll come with you!  A lot of people are still scared that Dubai, being in the Middle East, is a strict place where you can't have fun... Well, that's not true, at all, it's completely the opposite. It's basically like a city from the West plunked in the Middle East, with beautiful beaches, an amazingly intricate culture, and great people. Click the link to see the rest of the photos, trust me, they are amazing! Disclaimer: the following photos may cause heart palpitations, the sweats, and a sudden urge to grab your suitcase and head to the desert! Enjoy the photos!!
